Nickel-plating of metal products and parts: under layer chrome-plating, gold-plating or for decoration

Nickel-plating surface treatment is a good choice if you want embellishment and a decorative finish of a product. However, if the product has to meet rigid requirements, the smoothness of the base material should be taken into account. Despite the fact that nickel has a filler capacity, it is wise to smooth out the base material completely in advance by grinding and polishing. These pre-treatments result in an optimal, smooth appearance without unevenness’s. We can also take care of the grinding and/or polishing for you. We can provide this in our premises, without loss of time. We can take care of nickel-plating or duplex nickel-plating from series production to single or specialist pieces.

Features of nickel:

  • Light yellowish plating
  • Good solderable
  • Magnetic coating
  • Good light reflection
  • Various coating thicknesses can be applied
  • Good corrosion resistance
  • Not impact resistant

The Multinal Group frequently applies nickel as a priming coat for (ornamental) chrome-plating, gold-plating or red copper. The combination of nickel-plating, chrome-plating and gold-plating surface treatments is mutually reinforcing.

The nickel finish, for example, obtains a gloss when is combined with chrome; while the chrome layer ensures that the product is impact-, wear- and corrosion resistant. Besides as a priming coat, nickel-plating can be used as a decorative finish.

Coating thickness determines corrosion resistance

With nickel-plating the coating thickness determines whether it is sufficiently corrosion resistant. The metal pores must be closed to guarantee good corrosion resistance. Not every coating and/or metal is suitable. If the corrosion resistance is extremely important for you, we will be pleased to offer you advice about the possibilities for your product.

Glossy, semi-glossy, matte and anti-reflective nickel

These types of nickel are intended for embellishment of consumer goods or serve as priming coat for chrome, silver or gold. The type of coating is determined by the mechanical pre-treatment, in combination with the type of nickel bath. The greater the matte finish, the softer and more ductile the nickel coating will be.
